5th Social Studies

We will begin the year studying Iowa History.  We will cover famous people, Native Americans, Explorers, counties, and a Main Project on a city in Iowa.  We will begin picking cities and writing letters so the students can work on their project throughout the unit.  We will then begin with the land and Native Americans.  We will talk a lot about Native Americans and their importance to Iowa.  We will also study the counties.  The students will learn about several specific counties and decorate a county. We will then put together the "State of Iowa" somewhere in the school for all to see.  We end with our projects being due and  famous Iowans.  This unit will end around conference time.  Any questions or concerns please feel free to email or contact me during my prep, which is 9:30-10:00, and before or after school.
